TOFU PREP

Tofu scares a lot of people! I have a simple, tasty way to prep tofu that takes virtually no time. A lot of tofu prep recipes I come across take a lot of time. Typically I don’t have time to marinate overnight, remember to freeze my tofu or bake it for 45 minutes. So here is my fool proof, simple ginger recipe for yummy fresh tofu! FAST!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

-1 PACKAGE EXTRA FIRM TOFU (MY FAVORITE IS TRADER JOES BRAND EXTRA FIRM TOFU)

-GINGER PASTE

-SEASONING OF CHOICE

-COCONUT OIL

-COCONUT AMINOS OR LOW SODIUM SOY SAUCE

STEP 1:

Set your tofu on a cloth or paper towels. You’ll want to absorb as much moisture as possible out of your tofu before cooking. This truly makes the biggest difference! I usually just lightly press on my tofu with a cloth or paper towel until I feel I’ve gotten most of the moisture out. I then cut my tofu into 1 inch pieces. I re-do the paper towel process on these smaller pieces to ensure I’ve gotten out as much moisture as possible.

STEP 2:

Heat a non stick pan on your stove top to medium heat, add coconut oil to your pan. If using traditional organic coconut oil, use about a 1/2 tbsp. I have currently been using coconut oil spray! It’s a lot easier and reduces the amount of calories your adding to your meal. Once the pan is hot, add in your tofu.

STEP 3:

Take your ginger paste and squirt a little bit onto each piece of tofu in your pan. You can also add any additional seasonings at this time, it will stick to the ginger paste nicely.

STEP 4:

Drizzle in some coconut aminos, or low sodium soy sauce. This is going to help brown the tofu.

STEP 5:

Once the tofu has started to brown on the side that is face down on the pan, you can flip the tofu. There is no sure science to this, I do try and flip each on individually so they all get cooked well. You can now add a little more heat to your pan. Add in another drizzle of aminos and cook the second side until it is browned. I prefer my tofu to be slightly crispy so I will intentionally try and burn my tofu for just a little bit at the end.

Serve on a salad, add to soup or with any type of meal you’d like!

Intentionally Winging it,
